After years of drought, months of out of control wild fires, heavy rains causing flooding and erosion, and now a worldwide pandemic replete with infected cruise ship docked for the foreseeable future . Australia is about to deal with what is forecast to be the hottest year ever recorded or scientifically provable to have ever occurred.
Almost hilariously, an elderly gentleman I know down there thought I might prosper from an attempt to buoy me up for life’s challenges. At least sensed a chance of being dispirited.

It’s interesting to ponder whether Darwin would have developed his theory had he not visited Australia. I mean, seriously, what place on earth better exemplifies nature’s brutality?

I would’ve gone with a national treasure undiscovered outside the immediate 1000 km area, the Kate’s.

There’s a trilogy called the Newsflesh Trilogy, by Mira Grant. It’s a political thriller set in a post-zombie-apocalypse world. It’s not actually a zombie book, they’re just the background environment. Well worth a read if you have even the slightest tolerance for genre books.
Grant has also written a number of short stories and n ovellas, set in the same universe. One of them, How Green This Land, How Blue This Sea , is based on the premise that when the zombie apocalypse came to the rest of the world, nations sank without trace or retreated into a survivalist hell, but when the zombie apocalypse came to Australia, Australians took one look at it and said “Is that all you’ve got?”
